In a clean 3-0 sweep over Team Envy, Gambit has won VALORANT Champions Tour 2021: Stage 3 Masters in Berlin, Germany. Envy took leads on all three maps, but it was Gambit who stormed back time and time again to eventually triumph and crown itself champion of VCT Berlin.
The series was expected to be contentious, and it was, but Gambit's win over Envy was a microcosm of the entire Stage 3 Masters tournament. Led by Sentinels, who was considered a strong contender for the best team in the world at the start of the event, jumped out to a quick lead in the head-to-head against the EMEA teams.
However, the tables began to turn in favor of EMEA, which was punctuated by a shocking 2-0 upset by G2 Esports against Sentinels.
The upsets didn't stop there, however. Sentinels was eliminated in the round of 8 by fellow North American squad Team Envy, who stacked back-to-back upsets after defeating 100 Thieves in the semifinals to qualify for the finals of VCT Stage 3 Masters.
The other side of the bracket was no stranger to upsets. G2 Esports was expected to defeat Gambit in the semifinals, but it was Gambit who qualified for the finals in a 2-0 victory over G2. While recency favored EMEA teams over NA teams, any predictive analysis had been thrown out the window as neither top team from either Western region qualified for the final of VCT Stage 3 Masters.
Because Gambit had already qualified for VCT 2021 Champions at the end of the season, its victory in Berlin gave the EMEA an extra qualifying team.
As a result, Fnatic has qualified for VCT Champions 2021 as one of the EMEA representatives because Gambit's official representative seed is now as the winner of VCT Masters Stage 3, not strictly a regional representative.
