Riot Games has revealed yet another playable character for its upcoming tactical shooter VALORANT. SAGE creates safety for herself and her team wherever she goes. Able to revive fallen friends and stave off forceful assaults, she provides a calm center to a hellish battlefield.
SAGE's reveal comes one week after Riot Games revealed SOVA, a Russian agent with a sniper as well as secondary weapons and optical enhancements. SAGE, on the other hand, looks to be more of a supportive hero with her ability to revive fallen teammates and her priority on team defense.
SAGE's kit, as seen in the video, primarily focuses on energy orbs that she's able to use as projectiles for friend or foe. The Chinese agent is also able to create temporary terrain to slow, zone, or impede enemies, or as seen in the video posted to the VALORANT twitter, to get the high ground. SAGE also has a pistol for combat self-sufficiency, declaring "I am NOT just your healer" as she gets the job done herself by using her kit to the fullest.
VALORANT has unveiled a new agent every week, and based on these past few weeks, will most likely continue to do so until the game's eventual release, or at least until its beta phase.
SAGE's official abilities and their descriptions, as provided by Riot Games, are as follows:
Slow Orb - Cast out a radianite orb that breaks into a slowing field upon impact with the ground. All caught in the field are slowed, grounded, and make noise when moving
Barrier Orb - Conjure a large, solid wall. Right-click to rotate the wall before casting.
Healing Orb - Heal an ally or yourself to full health over a few seconds.
Resurrection - Target a friendly corpse. After a short delay, revive them with full health.
SAGE's ability to resurrect her teammates will without a doubt be one of the harder game mechanics to balance. Blizzard Entertainment, for example, has had several balancing issues around Mercy, an Overwatch hero with a resurrection of a teammate as her Ultimate ability. SAGE will no doubt bring one of the more unique approaches to the battlefield in VALORANT, and coordination with one's teammates on the agent from China will be vital to in-game success.
