Twitch streamer Asmongold is under fire once again after he jumped back into the conversation around streamers Trainwreck and chocoTaco recent Twitter row. He spoke about the matter on stream recently, once again choosing to defend Trainwreck.
The crux of the topic stems from recent news that Trainwreck donated a 2014 Dignitas Katowice Holo Sticker, an extremely valuable item in Counter-Strike, to former DIG and NIP star Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund. This led to TSM streamer chocoTaco responding with a Star Trek quote, saying on Twitter, “Villains who twirl their moustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged,” to which Trainwreck took offense.
After his initial response on Twitter, Asmongold further commented on the matter and sided with Trainwreck on the topic of “harassment” when a bigger streamer calls out a smaller streamer. “Nick is completely right,” Asmongold said. “He is completely right. People were crying about that and they were mad that Nick said this. Nick is completely right. If you step up to anybody, expect them to respond.”
However, the clip was posted to r/livestreamfails with the title, “Asmongold defends Trainwrecks and Pog0 Polom”, and LSF readers interpreting it to mean Asmongold was also defending Trainwrecks gambling streams. This garnered a lot of attention as fans accused Asmongold of being a “hypocrite” for defending Trainwreck, having previously stated he would never gamble on stream, with the clip gaining over 11k views and 400 plus comments in an hour.
Asmongold continued his monologue on the matter stating, “It’s completely fine if he (chocoTaco) wants to criticize Trainwreck for gambling, he wants to call him out for doing this, you are completely within your rights to do that,” Asmongold said. “But don’t for a second think that your opinion and the validity to ascribe to your own opinion gives you immunity from other people disagreeing with you. It’s pathetic.”
Shortly after, Asmongold was made aware of the r/livestreamfails clip and addressed the reception he was getting. “Guys, I don’t like gambling,” Asmongold said in response to the comments. “I don’t like doing it. That is why I do not do it. I don’t gamble offstream, I never gamble. I just don’t like doing it. That’s all there is to it.”
The ongoing controversy surrounding gambling on Twitch continues to intertwine itself into multiple different facets surrounding streamers. Whether it is a good thing or a bad thing is still up for debate.
