On November 22nd, PUBG Corp, with Chang Han Kim as the CEO, announced its contract with Tencent, with Steven Ma as the senior vice president, for the servicing of the popular online Battle Royale game PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG) in China.
Mr. Kim said that 21 million copies of the title have been sold thus far since its release in March, and it is expected to open new possibilities in China with this strategic affiliation with Tencent. He also intends to provide the best game to Chinese players with the two companies closely working together.
“PUBG is the most popular eSports game played by worldwide players. Tencent plans to provide high-quality localization and operation for a successful service in China, and offers unconventional entertainment to players,” said Mr. Ma.
PUBG Corp is planning to perform a stable game service such as the expansion of the server and enhancement of anti-hacking programs, through the contract with Tencent, the company which has been successfully developing and servicing a diversity of major online games. Moreover, the company will actively promote the title using various media, including game streaming platforms and internet cafes.
PUBG has been constantly breaking records in the global market, with 21 million copies sold and 2.5 million concurrent players. The title is also placed No. 1 in the Internet Cafe Share in South Korea (source: Gametrics as at November).
The game has received 6 awards including the Presidential Award at the 2017 Korea Game Awards held at Busan Cinema Center in Busan, and it was also awarded the Best Multiplayer Game Award at the Golden Joystick Awards in the UK. Along with the title “ the First video game to reach 2 million concurrent players on Steam”, the game set 7 Guinness World Records and was acknowledged for its high quality and popularity among all the online games released in this year.
