The following was sent to Inven Global as a press release
KRAFTON, Inc., the creator of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, announced the final results of the PUBG Global Championship 2021 (PGC 2021), the premiere esports event that was hosted in South Korea from Nov. 19-Dec. 19. NewHappy earned the title of PGC 2021 Champions, winning more than $1.3 million USD throughout the entirety of the tournament. Thanks to revenue generated by the sale of exclusive in-game items from the PGC 2021 Pick’em Challenge, the total prize pool grew from $2 million to over $4.3 million USD.
PGC 2021 ended with NewHappy as champions. The China representative won four Chicken Dinners and scored 159 points over three days of the Grand Final. They won four matches and had 98 total kills. Heroic (Europe) earned second place and Virtus.Pro (Russia) took home third place. TSM FTX, one of the teams from the Americas, took fourth place, while KPI Gaming (LATAM) ended up in 12th. Spacestation Gaming was ranked 16th.
Recap of Event Structure, Points System, Ruleset, and Prize Pool Breakdown
PGC 2021 played host to 32 teams from the Americas, Europe, Asia and Asia-Pacific. Based on Rank Decision matches that took place from Nov. 19-21, the 16 highest-ranked teams kicked off the first week of Weekly Survival matches on Nov. 23 and battled it out for a place in the Weekly Grand Finals. As teams won Weekly Survival matches, they progressed to the Weekly Finals immediately - with their place in the Weekly Survival taken by the next highest-ranked team from Rank Decision matches. This process continued over two additional weeks to determine the final group of teams that competed in the PGC 2021 Grand Finals on Dec.16-19.
For PGC 2021, KRAFTON also re-introduced its SUPER (Standard and Universal PUBG Esports Ruleset) point ranking system. Accordingly, teams earned ranking points (based on final match outcomes) and kill points (based on the number of kills a team earns) during all Weekly Finals and Grand Finals matches.
