Kyle "KyKy" Souder, former assistant coach for the Houston Outlaws, announced on Twitter this afternoon that he would be parting ways with the Overwatch League team, joining "many people being let go from OpTic/Infinite/Outlaws."
Infinite Esports & Entertainment is the parent company of both OpTic Gaming and the Houston Outlaws, as well as Allegiance, another smaller esports organization. "[Infinite's] diverse array of business investments constitutes a self-sustaining ecosystem, including competitive teams, content creators, merchandise production, and others – including long-term projects like the development of an esports-specialized arena," says the company's website.
In recent weeks, numerous higher-ups within the company have been publicly let go or are otherwise rumored to be on their way out. Ali "Alicus" Saba, former Director of International Development, was let go from the organization in late September. "After almost a full year at Infinite Esports & Entertainment, I’m now officially back on the market while I take the time to work on some exciting side projects and consulting gigs," he announced via Twitter.
Similarly, Romain Bigeard, former General Manager for OpTic Gaming, also announced his release, citing differing opinions regarding the future of OpTic's League of Legends department. As aforementioned, KyKy has been let go as well. "Just informed that I am also one of the many people being let go from Infinite/Optic/Outlaws. I've turned down opportunities to remain loyal to one organization but am now a free agent looking for a fresh start," he wrote on Twitter.
And finally, although their status within the company has not been confirmed, both Ryan "OpticJ" Musselman and Chris Chaney have removed all mention of OpTic and Infinite from their Twitter bios. The former is the Senior Vice President of Global Partnerships and the latter is the President and founder of Infinite.
Recently, the Infinite family came under heavy scrutiny and criticism following their mishandling of GGEA (GG Esports Academy), their Overwatch Contenders team. The team bowed out of Contenders this season following a failure to submit a competition roster prior to the deadline.
Allegedly, as reported by The Benchmob, the team eggregiously mishandled group contract negotiations with an Overwatch Contenders team, Last Night's Leftovers, before ceasing all contact with the involved players and staff members. GGEA is now said to be on a "hiring freeze," allegedly connected to the ensuing shake-up of Infinite's upper management.
