Shanghai Dragons announced the release of their main DPS, Fang “Undead” Chao, on their official social media on March 28th.
The following is the tweet Shanghai Dragons posted: “Today Shanghai Dragons announce the release of Fang “Undead” Chao, with the approval of the OWL office. Shanghai Dragons are grateful for the contributions “Undead” has made so far this season, and wish him all best in his future career.”
Undead made his debut in the Gold Series Overwatch League in 2016 and was selected for the Overwatch World Cup 2017, being praised as the top DPS in China. He entered the Shanghai Dragons at the start of the Overwatch League, and managed to bring about some unexpected plays together with Diya, even when their results were abysmal.
The organization did not mention the reason behind the release, but there have been theories within several Overwatch communities that the issue may have been the problem with Undead’s personality seen via Weibo.
The Shanghai Dragons, who failed to show an apparent change until Stage 2, are preparing for Stage 3 with Se-yeon “Geguri” Kim, Gi-heyon “Ado” Chon, and Eui-seok “Fearless” Lee joining their team. With the release of Undead, there is a big change expected to be made to the team’s best lineup.
