Backed by Comcast Spectacor, Philadelphia Fusion is another OWL team to announce their official team colors and name. The orange and black scheme may fit current holiday season, but its real origins come from the Philadelphia Flyers, a professional Hockey team also owned by Comcast, that first popularized the colors among Philadelphia locals.
The president and CEO of Comcast Spector had this to say in the official press briefing:
“We are thrilled to introduce the Philadelphia Fusion brand and team colors as we continue our
exciting march toward the start of the season. Orange and black are colors of passion here in Philadelphia, and we are proud to incorporate them as we continue to formulate our coaching staff and roster of players.”
Compared to the teams announced before it, Philadelphia Fusion explanation of branding seems rather quaint. New York, Seoul, London, and Shanghai spoke of long-standing legacy's and sports traditions, where Philadelphia seems content with just staying on their organizations color theme. Are Orange and black really "colors of passion" in Philly?
Nevertheless, their impressive hype trailer captures the spirit of Fusion better than words do. The spirit of fusion is about individual things coming together to form something greater which, in itself, is what competitive Overwatch is all about.
You can follow @PHL_Fusion on Twitter or at their, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and YouTube of a similar name. The official team roster has not been announced yet but will be coming soon as stated in the official press briefing.
