GC Busan has won against Runaway by 4-3 at the Overwatch APEX Season 4 finals on October 21st (KST).
GC Busan has been showing outstanding growth that no Overwatch fans could ever imagine since they started playing in the APEX Season 4 for the first time. They have defeated Lunatic-Hai and C9 Kongdoo, two candidates in favor of winning, and won against Runaway, a team which had the world's best Genji-Tracer player in the finals with their own improved Genji-Tracer plays. They have now become the perfect team walking the royal road.
Here is the interview with the victor, GC Busan.
How do you feel about your first victory ever since the team was found?
Head Coach Hocury: Our dreams as the royal roader has finally come true, which hasn’t been something easy in the history of Overwatch. It has been a year since our team was found, and we had gone through a lot until we could win like this. This victory will be an important foundation for whatever we do in future. I’d truly like to congratulate my players.
How did you prepare for the finals?
Coach Park: We didn’t have much time to prepare for the finals. We mostly prepared by having discussions between our players.
Weren’t you tired since your schedule included constant plane rides? Also, are there any funny stories to share?
HaGoPeun: Of course we were tired since we had to get up early to come to the stadium. We even had players who found it hard to play with their usual skills, but I’m so glad that we won.
Coach Park: Hooreg said his ears felt full since it was his first time ever on a plane. So I told him that opening his mouth wide will help with his ear fullness, which he really did! He even said that it really helped, which was funny.
What do you think motivated your team to make it past the Challengers and get this far to win?
Head Coach Hocury: People looking to become pro gamers need help for even the smallest thing. They’d need to be taken care of as in playing in tournaments as well as in living aspects. However, we received much support from Busan Promotion Agency at the start that our players were able to look ahead in one direction without getting lost.
The match was extended to a full set; since when did you know that you were going to win?
WOOHYAL: Our coach told us to play with the same Genji-Tracer comp as our opponents do when we were losing by 1-2. They were the best team with the Genji-Tracer comp, but we knew we were going to win since our plays were very good.
Could you please tell us how your fight as Winston in the finals was different from the previous games?
Gesture: At first, I didn’t get the hang of it, but I was able to play in my own style as the time passed. Also, players playing Winston need to be broad-sighted and listen well to their teammates. Then they will be able to play as remarkably as DPS do in games.
How do you feel about getting selected as the MVP?
Profit: I think I got selected as the MVP because my teammates did great, and I am so grateful that I got selected. I think it has to do with the many kills I managed to get by myself that got me this award. To be honest, Hooreg did so much better than I did.
Hooreg: I wasn’t that great in Dorado, but I did okay in Temple of Anubis and Eichenwalde.
You displayed outstanding defense in Temple of Anubis.
Closer: Our team had practiced hit-and-run a lot. We were able to defend because we took care of our health by ping-ponging enemy aggros.
There’s a possibility of the tournament format changing next year; do you feel confident about making it to the top rank?
Coach Park: There was only one chance for every team in this season, but I think there will be more showing great performance as underdogs if it changes to a full league. I believe that it will become even higher in standard.
Is there anything you’d like to say?
Head Coach Hocury: I would like to thank Ariel for helping us to become better, and I feel sorry that he didn’t get to play in the finals, but he will be playing in China so please support him.
Coach Park: We will try harder since we still have more to go than the games we have played so far.
Gesture: Our dreams as the royal roader came true, and I will do my best to show good performance all the time as a true winning team should.
Ariel: We will be leaving for China to play in the APAC Premier 2017 tomorrow, and we will also try to play well in it.
Hooreg: I won’t forget how I felt at first and keep trying hard.
Profit: I would like to thank my parents, friends, and all the fans that rooted for me.
HaGoPeun: I won’t get above myself and will strive harder to overcome any part I am lacking in.
Closer: From now on, I will sleep early to keep in good condition, and I will do my best to improve on what I think I an lacking in.
WOOHYAL: I would like to truly thank my parents, and I’ll try my best to become the best sub tank ever.
