Post Malone becomes part owner of Team Envy

Friday, August 28th, Team Envy announced a new addition to the org - none other than Dallas' very own, Post Malone. The award-winning rapper makes his entrance into esports by buying into the parent company of the Overwatch League's Dallas Fuel and Call of Duty League's Dallas Empire.

This isn't the first rapper who has started investing in esports. In 2018, Drake bought into 100 Thieves, and throughout 2020 Wiz Khalifa has been investing in the Pittsburg Knights. Not only did Khalifa host multiple charity streams, but he also partnered with Korean League of Legends org, SeolHaeOne Prince, in their bid to join the upcoming LCK franchise (who currently sit atop the franchise waitlist).

Post Malone entering the scene is just yet another major entertainment figure to further elevate esports and prove its worth for the entertainment industry as a whole. Drake had the most Spotify listeners in 2018, and signed with 100 Thieves, Post Malone had the most in 2019 and now signs with Envy. So far The Weeknd is leading for 2020, maybe he is next on the list.

What do you hope to see from Post Malone in esports? And who do you hope buys into the industry next?
