Tremors shook the competitive Overwatch scene when Overwatch League franchise Vancouver Titans, home of the majority of the legendary Run Away lineup from South Korea's OGN Apex league in the early days of OW esports, released the entirety of its roster abruptly during the 2020 OWL season. However, in the past month, five of the former Vancouver Titans players have found new organizations to play for in the Overwatch League.
The most recent player to find a new team is DPS Kim "Haksal" Hyo-jong. The 2019 Overwatch League Rookie of the Year has joined New York Excelsior; the signing was confirmed by the team via Twitter on the morning of Friday, June 5.
Support player Lee "Twilight" Ju-Seok was signed by San Francisco Shock on May 17. In the 2019 Overwatch League Grand Finals, Vancouver Titans was handed its first playoffs lost by San Francisco Shock 4-0, and it ended up being the only one that mattered. Twilight is one of the best Supports in the Overwatch League, and has now joined the team to beat in 2020.
Tank player Choi "JJANU" Hyeon-woo was the first player to be released by Vancouver Titans. A week before the rest of the players' departures were announced, JJANU and Titans Head Coach Ji-Sub "paJion" Hwan left the team on April 30. Hangzhou Spark signed paJion as a Head Coach, and on May 16, JJANU was signed by the Washington Justice alongside former Vancouver Titans DPS Lee "Stitch" Chung-hee.
Former Vancouver Titans Support Kim "SLIME" Jung-sun found a new home with another organization with much more than just its roots in South Korea. SLIME was signed by Seoul Dynasty on May 14.
Three players who started on the Vancouver Titans roster in the 2020 season remained unsigned. Both Tank Baek "Fissure" Chan-hyung and Support Ryu "ryujehong" Je-hong, established OWL stars in their own respective rights, joined the team after the 2019 seasons. The splash signings were supposed to be what gave the Titans the edge in a potential 2020 rematch with the Shock, but their chapter in Titans history was short-lived and ended with utmost abruptness.
Seo "SeoMinSoo" Min-soo, the DPS whose Zarya was bested only by SF Shock's star DPS and 2019 OWL MVP Jay "sinatraa" Won, is the only teamless member of the former Vancouver Titans players who has ties with Run Away. SeoMinSoo, Fissure, and ryujehong are three of the greatest competitive Overwatch talents in the history of the young esport, and their absence has left a void in the Overwatch League 2020 season that has yet to be filled.
