The Overwatch League has announced that they will be moving all matches online after cancelling all homestand events for the months of March and April.

"Online play allows us to prioritize the health and safety of our entire community while still continuing to bring fans high-quality entertainment and competition," OWL said in a statement. "We plan to return to team-hosted homestand competitions in front of live audiences as soon as it is safe and logistically possible."

As a number of teams in the Pacific East have yet to play any of their matches at all, the Overwatch League also revealed that they have canceled the midseason tournament. The top four teams in the league were set to square off at a midseason event near the All-Star game to give fans some sense of stakes in the regular season before playoff contention becomes an issue - that will now have to be foregone.

OWL also announced that the All-Stars match will be moved to after the 2020 season when Coronavirus concerns have hopefully subsided. The match schedule for these online games has yet to be shared but is expected to include makeup games for the Pacific East division, as well as the other canceled homestands. 

COVID-19, or the Novel Coronavirus, continues to have widespread effects on esports as a whole. Most recently, the LEC suspended all play due to suspicions that a staff member might be infected with the virus.
