The second annual PA (Pennsylvania) Cup saw host Harrisburg University sweep to championships in both League of Legends and Overwatch. This was the second year for the all-state collegiate esports championship, which began earlier in February with more than 30 schools competing virtually in qualifying rounds. The final eight teams advanced to go head-to-head on February 15 in front of a live audience at Club XL in Harrisburg, as well as being streamed on Twitch.

Equally significant, was Harrisburg University’s inclusion of PA’s first High School Showmatch at a major tournament. The efficacy of such a move was manifest in the large crowds of parents, family, and friends who turned out to cheer on these high school teams. Bishop McDevitt took home the League of Legends crown while Susquehanna Township won the Overwatch crown, both securing their place at the top of Pennsylvania high school brackets.

In League of Legends, Temple University gained momentum in game two, but Harrisburg University was able to pull through and secure the win. In the final match of Overwatch, Harrisburg University took an early lead on Penn State from which it was unable to recover.

“We couldn’t wait to bring the PA Cup back for its second year, even bigger and better than before,” said Director of Esports Chad Smeltz. “Bringing the best teams in PA together gives the students a chance to connect and build this esports community, and Harrisburg University is honored to host.”
