Once again, the League of Legends World Championship is arriving. 2022 has been an exciting year for the esport — with my twists and turns throughout many different regions. After an interesting group draw, fans from around the world eagerly await the action.
As has been tradition for several years now, though, fans will enjoy play-ins before the main event begins. For six days, twelve teams will battle for spots in the main event. Inven Global presents all the necessary information to enjoy this portion of the tournament.
Where can I watch?
When does the Play-In start?
The Worlds 2022 play-in group stage will occur between Sep. 29 through Oct. 2, and the bracket stage from Oct. 3 to Oct. 4.
All game days start at 1PM PST, 3PM CST, 4PM EST, 9PM BST.
How are the teams split up?
Group A:
- Beyond Gaming (Southeast Asia #2)
- Chiefs Esports Club (Oceania #1)
- DetonatioN FocusMe (Japan #1)
- Evil Geniuses (North America #3)
- Fnatic (Europe #3)
- LOUD (Brazil #1)
Group B:
- DRX (Korea #4)
- İstanbul Wildcats (Turkey #1)
- Isurus (Latin America #1)
- MAD Lions (Europe #4)
- Royal Never Give Up (China #4)
- Saigon Buffalo (Vietnam #2)
What’s the format?
For play-ins, the twelve teams are split up into two groups — playing best-of-ones in a single round-robin format. First-place teams in the group advance to the group stage, teams placed second through fourth advance to the second round of play-ins, while the group’s bottom two teams are eliminated. In round two, the remaining six teams that did not reach first place will compete in best-of-five series (the second placed teams competing against the winners of sets between the third and fourth placed teams of the same group) to determine the last spots for Worlds’ main group stage.
