Asmongold returned from his Twitch hiatus on Tuesday after four months away from his main channel. In his first stream back he played the newly released ARPG Lost Ark and talked about his difficult few months after losing his mother. During his emotional return stream he reached just short of 285k viewers, a personal high for him. The VOD of that stream is just short of 4 million views as of writing this article.
"It's like whenever you are just gone for 4 months, what's it going to be like when you come back?" Asmongold said. "It feels good, it feels like I never left. I am glad to be back. To be honest, with you I was very nervous sleeping last night, and by very nervous I mean I slept for like 3 hours."
Asmongold announced that he will also be adjusting his stream schedule to make it more sustainable, so he doesn't get burnt out again. He also talked a little bit about his personal experiences over the past few months, explaining that he has been dealing with his mom's passing recently and that it has been really difficult for him.
He said, "while I do feel alone for the first time in my life, I also feel free. The truth is that for the last 10 years and probably more than that, every single day of my life, I had this stress of this problem with her and her situation. [...] I couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't stop it, I couldn't prevent it, it would just happen all the same. And it finally did, and now it can't happen again."
"I just feel like it was a time dilation thing ... I was just stuck doing this thing over and over," He said "It's a situation I knew I would be in, its a situation I know I am in, and we have to make the best of it. There is no way but forward, and it's a situation where you can let the tides of time wash you away, or you can take up arms against a sea of troubles and you can keep going. And today it's time to keep going."
Asmongold said at the conclusion of his comeback stream: "I still cannot even believe I just went live today. I am going to probably go lay down and think about this. It's kind of crazy. ... we are going to keep streaming, keep playing the same game, and we are going to go through the rest of it."
While Asmogold has been absent on his main channel for the past few months, following the tragic death of his mother, for whom he was the caretaker, he has done some casual streams on his second channel. He did very little promotion of his return stream on Tuesday, but the return ended up still being highly successful, with many fans praising his return.
He played Lost Ark, a brand new free-to-play MMO ARPG developed by Smilegate and Amazon Game Studios. That game has seen tremendous interest over the past couple of days, including pulling over a million Twitch views on Tuesday, and trending on Twitter for some time as well. That success was in no small part driven by Asmongold and other large creators who have taken an interest in the new game, which fills the gap left by the ongoing delay of Diablo 4.
