Many people take Barrier or Ignite but I prefer Exhaust. It really helps a lot against roaming Zeds, ganking Hecarims etc.

Bonus :

+6 Attack damage or +10 ability power, adaptive and +65 health

In my opinion Aery is a must have as Soraka. It gives you nice bonus damage but the best part is obviously that you shield your ally every time you heal them. The Resolve tree is really nice for Soraka due to the Revitalize that grants you 5% extra heal power.

No matter who you play against, Redemption is always a must have for Soraka. Ardent Censer might not be meta but it's still nice enough!

Basic

Start with this Items. The Spellthief'S Edge gives you nice Gold income and Mana Regen. Also make sure to buy Control Wards as soon!

End Game

Of course it always depends on your enemy team. If the enemy team has much CC, you should replace Twin Shadows with Mikael's Crucible for example.

If you play vs. full AD

  • Locket of the Iron Solari

If the enemy team does tons of damage and you need to heal much try to stack not only armor but HP and go for Warmog's Armor! Watch your positioning in teamfights and you should be able to outheal all the damage your enemies do!

It's always up to you what to max. E max is very strong, some max the Q. I still prefer the W max. In my opinion it's good to know that you're always ready to heal your allies, especially when you have much CDR and practically have no cooldown on your W.
After the W I max the E cause the silence is very important since it can cancel several Spells and Ultimates by your enemies. It's also very nice to poke combined with the Q.

In my opinion Soraka is very strong against a few other heal/shield Supports like Janna. Especially since the shield supports got nerfed. You can poke with the Q and your W has a much lower cooldown then Janna's E (the shield)

I like to pick Soraka against a Miss Fortune since I am able to cancel her Ultimate instantly with the Silence. Always make sure to not use the E when Miss Fortune has her Ultimate ready since you need it for that case and it has a pretty high cooldown.

I think it's not the best decision to pick Soraka against a Blitzcrank. Of course you always have to watch your positioning but laning against Blitzcrank doesn't allow you to make any mistakes. Once he grabs you, you'll probably die since Soraka is very squishy.

It's not impossible to win against Pyke but it's definitely not fun at all to lane against him as Soraka. If it's a good Pyke, he'll use his Q, E, ignite and Ult and you're dead.
