In an announcement this evening, LoL Esports Latinoamérica issued a statement on Twitter saying that tomorrow's League of Legends Worlds Championship broadcast is cancelled due to protests in Santiago de Chile. 

The statement reads:

"We have officially suspended the Latin American broadcast of #Worlds2019 for tomorrow, due to the situation of public disturbances and state of alert declared in Santiago, Chile. The safety of our team is an absolute priority for us."

Earlier today, Sebastián Piñera, Chile’s president, declared a state of emergency in the capital after angry mobs smashed train stations, set fire to vehicles and buildings to protest higher metro fares.  The president, in a televised address of the situation, criticised protesters, stating “There will be no room for violence in a country with the rule of law at its core.”

Bastian Guzman, esports caster and host for Riot Games LATAM has shared his own experience with the protests, commenting:

"This looks like a civil war... It hurts my soul to see what's happening..."

The price increase puts Sanitiago's metro as the most expensive in Latin America, at 830 pesos (around $1.17).

Resident and student student, Mariela, told the Telegraph:

“We want them to lower the metro fare again because they aren’t putting salaries up. This affects our parents, we are here in solidarity for our families. We want to unite to make the government listen.”  

Chile's state of emergency was established by Chile's dictatorship-era constitution and grants the government additional powers to restrict the citizens' right to protest. Residents bang pots and pans on the streets to protest in safety, as armored vehicles roam the streets.
