On the 21st of July, the 2018 NA LCS Week 5 Day 1 was held in the LA LCS Arena. On this day, there were several upsets and turnarounds, proving that there were no definite strong or weak teams in this split. The slots for the playoffs are still up for grabs.
The first game was between Echo Fox and 100 Thieves. Echo Fox started the game ahead with the performance from Damonte and Dardoch. However, after a few excessive teamfights, the game was turned over. Afterward, Ssumday and Ryu carried the team through the late game teamfights, and 100 Thieves took the win.
Game 2 was one of the main matches of the day; it was a clash between Cloud9 and Team Liquid. As much as fans looked forward to this match, the game neck-and-neck. It couldn’t be said which team had the advantage until the late-mid game. The hero of the match was Licorice. His performance on Poppy was very impressive, and Cloud9 was able to end the match in a victory.
There was an upset in Game 3. TSM hadn’t been playing very well lately and was defeated by OpTic Gaming in today’s match. PowerOfEvil’s Viktor dominated the Rift. As of this loss, TSM extended their losing streak to three.
In Games 4 and 5, the two teams who were the underdogs of the Spring Split delivered a completely different performance from the last split. Golden Guardians defeated Counter Logic Gaming, and FlyQuest defeated Clutch Gaming. Both winning teams hit the 5-4 mark and were placed second in the standings.
