On the 29th, during the 2nd series of the day, Gen.G defeated Jin Air Green Wings with a score of 2-0.
In game 1, GEN played their usual ADC composition to win the game. Although they were at a disadvantage in the early-to-mid game, they remained level-headed and scaled well into the late game, allowing their composition to really shine. In the following game, Ruler continued to play brilliantly, winning him the 2nd MVP title of the series. By playing very reliably on Ashe and Xayah in a meta such as this one, Ruler won the MVP title.
After the interview, the sole MVP titlist, Ruler, was invited for an interview with a SPOTV caster.
It has been a while since I’ve interviewed you. You made a lot of impressive plays today. Tell me about it.
In game 1, we had an easy time during picks and bans. We would’ve had an even easier time if we didn’t lose the teamfight near dragon in the early game. We weren’t thinking clearly about the enemy’s available skills; we were reckless. In addition, our shotcalls were made very vaguely.
Your team took the lead through the teamfight near Baron.
Our team made the call that we can win if we go to Baron. We warned each other that we have to stay bold during the teamfight to win. The reason that we made the call was that the enemy had used up all of their primary/important skills. We didn’t play fantastically, but we did pretty well.
Fans are talking about the new World Champion SSG skins. How did you come up with the idea of the Xayah’s recall animation?
The people involved and I were talking about Korean culture when creating the animation. Riot really put a lot of energy and effort into making it. They also added extra things that we didn’t mention into the skins. I’m extremely satisfied with the final product.
In game 2, Haru had a rough start in the jungle. Even the toplaner was struggling in the early game. However, thanks to your performance, GEN was able to bounce back.
Wait, top was struggling? He has like zero presence anyway, so I didn’t even notice. (Laughs) It was alright. I told the team to stay focused, and to not be swayed by the problems at hand.
The most impressive moment was when you escaped from a situation in which the enemy team used four of their ultimates trying to catch you out. How did your team react?
They said, “Nice~” It was possible because I was Xayah, and it was my problem with getting caught out in the first place.
Your performance is getting better and better.
To be honest, I lost a lot of my confidence during our team’s game against bbq Olivers. Our head coach told me, “You’re a great player, so why are you so discouraged?” That’s when I got back to my senses.
Along with CuVee, your teammates seem to have a strong mentality. How is the team atmosphere?
We made a lot of mistakes. So it wasn’t always good. Since we won today’s match, we’ll become more motivated. The atmosphere will become better through this victory.
Gen.G is on a roll. Everyone on GEN seems to be playing really well as of right now. In your opinion, out of your teammates, who is performing the best?
All of them are. It’s really hard trying to pick out one player. But if I was forced to pick anyway… I’ll pick CoreJJ, because we’re a bot duo.
Your next match is against Afreeca Freecs. They seem really confident in playing against you guys.
Kiin actually told me, “hyung, I really wish that you’d lose.” So I tried even harder today.
Are you confident in playing against AFs?
I am -- not necessarily on showing an impressive play, but on simply winning the laning phase.
You’re being regarded as the ADC’s last hope and/or the ADC hero.
ADCs are very good champions. Don’t be swayed by the other meta picks. Just play ADCs, especially Ashe.
Any last words for the fans?
Thank you for coming to cheer for me despite the extremely hot weather. Please head home safely and eat a tasty meal for dinner. Thank you for always cheering for me, and I’ll continue to do my best.
