As esports has been selected as a demonstration sport in the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games, a green light has lit up for the Korean esports team. The Daejeon Sports Council (DSC) is said to be considering the possibility of KeSPA joining as a subdivision.

Although esports was selected, KeSPA failed to meet the standards needed to become an affiliate of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC), and it was unclear whether there would be a Korean esports team participating or not. KSOC suggested that KeSPA join one of the Sports Councils, but KeSPA asserted that it would be difficult to do so under their current circumstances.

The due date for the player list is close, and rumor has it that the DSC more or less in favor of KeSPA joining the council. If KeSPA can agree on the proper terms with the DSC, they will be able to meet the standards that the KSOC proposed and will be able to create a national esports team.

One authority from the DSC said “We’re going into this with a positive outlook,” stating that the council is “doing our best to make it work. I think you can expect good results.”

The due date of the player list is at the end of this month. With only one week left, it seems that whether there will be a Korean esports team at the 2018 Asian Games or not is dependent upon the actions of the DSC and KeSPA.
