Riot Games announced through their official website that they have penalized Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong of kt Rolster for taking control of another player’s account.
According to the announcement, Mata received a 30-day ban for taking control of another player’s account on last January 26th (KST), and an additional committee meeting has been held by the LCK to further investigate on the incident and to determine the penalty.
Taking control of another player’s account is forbidden by the Esports Global Penalty Index and according to the policies, playing another player’s account in exchange for personal gain can be penalized up to 20 months of competitive play. In 2015, Kim “Trick” Gang-yun of CJ Entus (Current bbq Olivers’ Jungler) was penalized for boosting an account with a 12 game-suspension along with a fine of 1.2M Korean Won (≒1,100 USD) and 60 hours of community service.
According to the committee, Mata played another player’s account, but wasn’t in exchange for personal gain. Also, Mata was very remorseful about the matter so the penalty was limited to 500K Korean Won (≒458 USD) and 25 hours of community service without competitive suspension.
Mata left an apology through his personal Facebook account on this matter by saying “I had an account made long ago from my mother’s personal information. I continued using it without realising that it wasn’t my account. The penalty is due to my own carelessness and I will accept any punishment.”
Meanwhile, kt Rolster is placed 2nd with KSV at 5W 1L (+6) and the penalty won’t cause trouble to their competitive play.
