Tom, Former Jungler for SKT, Announces His Retirement From the Scene as a Player

Lim "Tom" Jae-Hyun announced his retirement from the scene as a player.

On the 1st of November(KST), through his personal SNS, Tom announced his retirement. On his rather long post, Tom briefly mentioned "contract issues" and "underperformance" before mentioning his thoughts on working on the scene as a coach.

As a former jungler for SKT, Tom brought entertainment to those watching by playing underplayed champions such as Udyr in competitive play. From 2016, he has been a part of the Chinese scene as both a player and coach. He has also achieved promoting NBY, a former Challenger-equivalent Chinese team, to the LPL, in just 3 months after joining the organization.

Lastly, Tom mentioned, "Though short, the amount of time I spent as a player was the happiest time of my life," along with revealing the intention of remaining in the scene as a coach.

"Hi, I'm Lim "Tom" Jae-Hyun.

Some of you may already know, but I have had contract issues with Chinese teams. My contract had me "frozen" for more than a year.

Last year, I promoted NBY, a Chinese team in the Challenger league, to the LPL, within the 3 months that I have been with them [as a coach]. I have been under a lot of stress and wanted to play again as a player, so I rejected further offers from the Chinese teams and returned to Korea to look for opportunities.

But as of now, I realized that my mechanical skills have deteriorated over my long break... and the fact that a lot of players at the moment are tremendously talented and confident in their own skills - much more than me - discouraged me. So I'd like to announce my retirement from the scene as a player.

I have been jobless for a year, but I want to end that and be successful as a coach again. This might be a personal opinion, but I am talented, passionate, confident, and I'm well aware of my surroundings. I keep up-to-date with the scene and watch most of the games. I am still fairly young, but I see this as an opportunity rather than a liability, so please see it positively.

Please contact me for further information, thank you."
