According to Head Coach iloveoov, AFs's new training method took some strong measures.
On July 18th (KST), Afreeca Freecs defeated bbq Olivers 2-1 in the second match of 2017 LCK Summer Split Day 31. Although AFs lost Game 1 pretty quickly and almost dropped Game 2 as well, they eventually turned the game around and took Game 2 from bbq and won the final game in a very decisive manner. The team's head coach, Yeonsung "iloveoov" Choi, was interviewed on air by OGN after the match.
Congratulations on your win today.
I'm very happy that we've won. Thanks to Mowgli performing well beyond my expectations without being getting nervous, he did a lot to make the team stronger.
You lost Game 1 pretty badly. Did you sub out Spirit because of it?
The botlane duo was warned about Elise, but they still got killed. It wasn't really about Spirit's performance today, but rather about team synergy. It may have looked like Spirit was in a bad shape, but it was also because our laners didn't listen to calls well enough. So we decided to try Mogwli to shake things up.
How are you trying to solve the team's inconsistency?
We fell down to being middle of the pack after losing 5 matches in the first half, but we used it as an opportunity to be stronger mentally. We also changed our training methods with some strong measures. As the result, the players will follow the calls even if they'd all die.
Why did Kramer only play Xayah today?
He became more proficient with Xayah while he was trying to expand his champion pool. Xayah's champion tier also increased in the mean time, so we decided to stick with her.
You'll be facing KT Rolster for next match. How will you prepare for the match?
We have five matches left to go, and We have to win the Summer Split if we were to go to the World Championship. For that, we have to defeat KT Rolster, so we'll do everything that we can to win.
