According to an announcement on MAD Lions' social media, the longtime League of Legends veteran Kim "Reignover" Yeu-jin has signed with the organization as a positional coach for the 2022 LEC season. Reignover will work under Head Coach James "Mac" MacCormack, with his role focusing on the jungle — his area of expertise.
Reignover joins MAD Lions after working with Cloud9 for over two years. Originally signing with the LCS team as a positional coach in 2019, Reignover worked in a numbers of roles throughout the organization over the next two years. Starting in 2020, Reignover led Cloud9 Academy to two LCS Academy championships, then being promoted to Cloud9's Head Coach in 2021.
Although the team was initially successful — winning the 2021 Mid-Season Showdown championship — the team experienced an unsuccessful exit from 2021 Mid-Season Invitational, with Reignover being moved to an assistant coach position in favor of Alfonso "mithy" Aguirre Rodríguez as Head Coach. Reignover left the organization in Nov. 2021.
The signing comes after a shakeup within MAD Lions' LEC team — the organization losing star players Marek "Humanoid" Brázda and Matyáš "Carzzy" Orság. The team found success with roster changes in the past, but some analysts worry if MAD Lions will be able to build as strong of a team as in the past. MAD Lions' coaching staff has been one of the most successful in the west — qualifying for two iterations of Worlds and winning two splits of the LEC. Mac two times has won LEC Coach of the Split.
Reignover is a veteran of the League of Legends scene. Before working as a coach, since 2013 he competed as a jungler in teams throughout Korea, Europe and North America. His most successful team was with Fnatic in Europe — winning two splits of the EU LCS, including an undefeated streak during the 2015 Summer Split.
