The finals of the 2021 League of Legends World Championship is set to take place on Saturday, November 6 in Reykjavik, Iceland between DWG KIA and EDward Gaming. Both teams won the domestic leagues of their respective regions of South Korea and China leading up to Worlds 2021, and EDG will look to finish their first-ever Worlds run past quarterfinals in an attempt to dethrone the reigning world champion in DK, who is looking to defend their throne.
Three days before the finals of the 2021 World Championship, players and coaches of DWG KIA and EDward Gaming, as well as many representatives of Riot Games, addressed the press in a finals media day at the Blue Lagoon in Reykjavik, Iceland. During this media day, both teams were asked to make predictions on the finals, and EDG support Tian "Meiko" Ye, as well as DK head coach Kim "kkOma" Jeong-gyun and mid laner Heo "ShowMaker" Su, shared predictions on the series.
In a tone that has come to be expected from the most successful coach in LoL esports history, kkOma was humble when predicting a relatively one-sided result in favor of his DWG KIA squad in the finals of Worlds 2021.
"I think it will be 3-1 because our coaching staff and players are slightly better," kkOma said.
ShowMaker was far bolder than his coach was in his prediction. "We experienced a Bo5 in the semis, and I don't want to play another 5 games. So I want to win quickly and go home," ShowMaker said flatly. Meiko, who has qualified for his first Worlds final since joining EDG in 2014, echoed ShowMaker's sentiment of a one-sided series due to the competitive semifinals: "We've played a 5-game series twice in the tournament, so we're going to beat them 3-0 and go home quickly."
