The 2022 League of Legends World Championship will be held in North America across four cities. Riot Games' Head of North America & Oceanic Esports Chris Greeley first discussed the host location of Worlds 2022 in an interview with Travis Gafford, which was later confirmed by Upcomer's Tyler "FionnOnFire" Erzberger.

Should Worlds 2022 take place as planned, it would be the first time the event was hosted without a hitch in three years. The 2020 World Championship was originally scheduled to take place across multiple cities in China, but due to safety precautions following the global COVID-19 pandemic, Riot pivoted to host the entire event in Shanghai in order to optimize pre-competition quarantine periods and minimize the transfer of potential infection by streamlining logistics with one venue.

The Worlds 2020 pivot saw Worlds 2021 scheduled for a tour across five cities in China, but a report earlier this week by Upcomer stated Europe would be the hosting region instead.

Riot Games confirmed one day later that it was having difficulty locking down crew-based logistics in China, and as a result, the entire 2021 World Championship would instead be hosted in Europe this fall. Riot Games has not yet released any further details regarding locations.

Due to the change, there was some community speculation that the 2022 League of Legends World Championship would be moved to China to finally give the region with the largest playerbase — and arguably, the best competitive teams at the moment — a proper Worlds after being unable to do so this year and last year. However, with NA still on the docket to host 2022, China is set as the tentative 2023 host.

2022 will mark the fourth time North America will host the League of Legends World Championship.  In 2012, Worlds took place entirely at one venue in Los Angeles. In 2013, Worlds took place at two venues in Los Angeles and kicked off in neighboring Culver City. In 2016, Worlds was hosted across four North American cities. San Francisco, CA hosted the Group Stage, Chicago, IL hosted the Quarterfinals, New York, NY hosted the Semifinals, and the Finals concluded once again in LA.
