On day 17 of the 2021 LCK Summer split, Liiv SANDBOX took on Afreeca Freecs in the second match of the day. After a full three-game series, LSB managed to defeat AF 2-1 and take the series home. With this victory by LSB, they now have four match victories in the standings, joining the ‘4-win’ club alongside DWG KIA, AF, and NS RedForce.
The following is the post-match interview with the adc of LSB, Lee “Prince” Chae-hwan.
After a very back and forth series against AF, LSB now has four match victories under their belt. How do you feel about the win?
Game 1 was pretty clean, but lost game 2, and was down in the early game during game 3. Still, we managed to take the victory as a unit, so I’m pretty happy about it.
What was the problem in game 2, especially the early game?
I think there was a problem around the top side of the map. Bot lane was pretty standard, and I think I did my part.
AF managed to use Sett to pull off successful dives multiple times in the series. What was the feedback that LSB received about the enemy Sett?
We talked about the Sett tower dives during the draft, but I think we still didn’t deal with it properly. We knew that they favored Sett, but we prioritized the champions that we favored more.
Before tonight’s match, your teammates stated that they really wanted to kill the enemy adc, Han “Leo” Gyeo-re. As the person that took over his spot on LSB, what did you think about this sentiment?
It’s natural to not want to lose to a player that you’re close with. Two players left the team after I joined; I was very close with both of them. Even in game 3, Leo was stretching his long arms, and my teammates mimicked him for fun. I laughed very hard at that.
Leo played very well in game 1, but lost. I think he wanted to get revenge on his former team.
I was aware that he was ahead of me in-game. However, I think he was ahead because we had different responsibilities within the team. I’m not playing too well nowadays, but I didn’t feel pressured about getting outperformed.
LSB continues to look better and better by the day. How much higher do you think the team can climb in the standings?
I had to focus on my own gameplay in the Spring split, but now, we’re all trying to play as a unit and focus on the macro. However, in that process, I think that I’m falling behind. I think that if the teamplay gets better, we’ll climb even higher in the standings; improving my own gameplay is one of the solutions to make the team better as a whole.
What do you think is the reason behind LSB being better in teamfights than other teams?
If the enemy plays near perfectly, it’s almost impossible for us to win a disadvantageous teamfight. However, there are a lot of variables, as well as pressure for the players, so the level of focus that the players have is different. I think the skill gap comes from the draft and that level of focus.
What instructions does the coaching staff give on the team’s teamfighting?
Our head coach always points out the fundamentals that we all may overlook, and our strategic coach points out our win conditions. Their advice really helped in winning tonight as well.
LSB’s next match is against DRX. What are the things that you’ll need to prepare for?
I don’t think we’re going to lose our next match against DRX because my teammates are playing very well right now. We’ll focus on our in-game responsibilities; for myself, I’ll focus on making plays that I can be satisfied with.
Lastly, is there anything you’d like to say?
Tonight, not only were there many fans on-site, my father was also watching from the stands. I think their support really helped me to win tonight, and will work harder to perform well.
