Cloud9 mathematically eliminated from MSI 2021 Knockout Stage qualification alongside Pentanet .GG

Cloud9 has been mathematically eliminated from qualifying for the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational Knockout Stage. In the final day of the Rumble Stage, Cloud9 needed to go 2-0 and hope that Royal Never Give Up would defeat MAD Lions to force a tiebreaker with the latter, but MAD's win over RNG mathematically eliminated any possibility of a top 4 finish at MSI for the NA representative.

Cloud9 is the second team to be eliminated from Knockout Stage qualification in the Rumble Stage after Pentanet .GG's 0-7 resulted in its mathematical elimination from moving on to the next round, and ironically, it was PGG's only win of the Rumble Stage against C9 that ended up being the nail in its coffin. At 1-5 on day 4 of the Rumble Stage, C9 greatly increased its chances to qualify for the semifinals with an impressive win over RNG, but lost all of its ground in an embarrassing PGG loss.

Cloud9 showed flashes of brilliance throughout MSI 2021, taking convincing wins against RNG and DWG KIA and coming close to beating the latter more than once more, but isolated individual mistakes cost the team many a win.

At 2-6, Cloud9's last matches against PSG Talon and MAD Lions, just like PGG's final match against DWG KIA, will only be an opportunity to learn any last lessons before leaving Reykjavik, Iceland.

While Pentanet .GG and Cloud9 are headed home at the end of the day, the four semifinalists will move onto the Knockout Stage. Seeding is currently being decided with three games left to finish in the Rumble Stage, but the aforementioned RNG and DK will 100% be joined by PSG Talon and MAD Lions. The winners of the two semifinals matches will face off against one another in the finals of the Knockout Stage to decide the winner of the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational.
