TSM has eliminated Evil Geniuses from the 2021 League of Legends Championship Series Mid-Season Showdown in a 3-1 win. TSM will move on in the lower bracket to face the winner of 100 Thieves and Dignitas, who will play against each other tomorrow.
TSM found itself in the lower bracket after losing its first match 3-1 to Team Liquid. This resulted in TL moving onto face Cloud9, who would sweep 100 Thieves the next day, while TSM was dropped down to the lower bracket for an elimination match against Evil Geniuses.
Evil Geniuses showed higher peaks than TSM throughout the series, especially in the early game around top laner Jeong "Impact" Eon-young, but ultimately, TSM played more consistently to its strengths and showed far more comfort in its identity throughout the series as a whole.
This was highlighted most significantly in game 3 — EG showed no awkwardness in bullying TSM top laner Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon's pocket Nocturne early on, but after controlling the entire game and looking poised to go ahead 2-1 in the series after winning game 2, disaster struck. EG played into TSM's strengths instead of its own, losing a teamfight in which TSM AD carry Lawrence "Lost" Hui's Xayah secured a quadra kill on the way to a TSM baron.
Similarly, EG led for the majority of game 4, but wasn't able to extend its lead enough before TSM's scaling composition reached critical mass. TSM jungler Mingyi "Spica" Lu had a miraculous Baron steal to keep TSM in the game long enough to win a late game teamfight and secure another Hand of Baron buff properly, and while EG continued to battle to the end, the hard-fought game ended with EG's nexus shattered into pieces as TSM took the series.
Evil Geniuses is the first team to be eliminated from the 2021 LCS Mid-Season Showdown. The winner of 100 Thieves and Dignitas will play against TSM in its next match, which will take place after TL and C9's bout in the upper bracket.
The winner of the series between TSM and either 100 or DIG will guarantee a top 3 finish for the victor, who will then move on to play against the loser of TL vs C9 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA for the first offline matches in North America in over a year. The winner of the final lower bracket match will go to the finals against either TL or C9.
