On Friday, September 24, Riot Games released its first Champion Roadmap update for League of Legends since June. The update also included more visuals and information on the upcoming Dr. Mundo VGU.
The language surrounding the next champion to be released in the update makes it very likely that "Piltover and Zaun's new rising star" is Seraphine. The second champion mentioned is an incredibly tanky support, described by Riot Games' developers as an extremely dangerous runaway criminal.
The mysterious fugitive support will be the last champion to be released in 2020, but the first champion to be released in 2021 was also teased as a jungle skirmisher with a twisted obsession for romance.
Progress on Dr. Mundo's VGU was also shown in the developer update. In addition to a visual update across the board, the Madman of Zaun will also receive gameplay updates and quality of life changes. Riot Games is aiming to keep Mundo as a very simple champion, but increase his ability to 'go where he pleases' by making him incredibly difficult to lock down with CC.
"Overall, we’re going to keep Mundo’s gameplay pretty similar," wrote Riot Games Lead Champion Producer Ryan 'Reav3' Mireles. "There will of course be tweaks and changes to many of his abilities to add more skill expression, satisfaction, and counterplay, but he will still feel like the same old Mundo we’ve grown to love."
Reav3 also acknowledged at the end of the update that while the developers wanted to poll the community to see which champion should receive the next VGU, technical difficulties on the backend of the website for the poll halted progress before completion. Riot Games' choice for the next VGU is one they believe will be well-received by the community, and it could be teased as early as the next Champion Roadmap update.
