With only a single game remaining in the 2020 League of Legends European Championship Summer Split, six teams have qualified for the 2020 LEC Summer Playoffs. G2 Esports' win over Excel Esports eliminated the latter from post-season contention, which automatically qualified both Fnatic and FC Schalke 04 for the final two playoff seeds.
FC Schalke 04 once sat at 1-10 in the Summer Split, but a miracle run of winning its last 7 games and perfect circumstances from results of other matches throughout the league allowed it to punch its post-season ticket.
After S04's massive 3-0 in the final weekend of the LEC Summer Split, it still needed Fnatic or Excel to lose to SK Gaming or G2 Esports, respectively. Excel fought first against G2 in the penultimate match of the split to keep its post-season hopes alive, and if the game would have ended in an XL win, Fnatic would have had to defeat SK Gaming or lose the final playoff seed to S04. XL remains the only organization in the LEC to never qualify for the post-season.
In a post-game interview with Laure "Bulii" Valée on the , S04 Jungler Erberk "Gilius" Demir said that while the team was watching the G2 vs XL match, he wasn't too worried about the outcome at that point: "G2's players told me that they were going to win, and when G2 tells you that, you believe them. They're that good."
Rogue, MAD Lions, SK Gaming, G2 Esports, FC Schalke 04, and Fnatic are the teams who will be competing in the 2020 LEC Summer Playoffs. Top 3 finishes in the post-season will decide the three teams sent to the 2020 League of Legends World Championship to represent Europe. Rogue secured 1st place in the Summer Split after defeating Origen in its final match and has already qualified for Worlds as a result.
