On the 3rd (KST), T1 took down Gen.G in the 2020 LCK Summer split, and managed to take their 4th victory of the split. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok was able to utilize Twisted Fate in game 2 to be proactive all over the Summoner’s Rift, and was able to quickly snowball the game into victory.

The following is Faker’s press room interview at LoL Park, Seoul.

How does it feel to take down Gen.G today?

We lost against many of the strong teams in the standings, so it holds a lot of meaning to take the victory today. I’m very satisfied.

T1 managed to take the comeback victory in game 1. Unlike the current trend where games are faster and action packed, there weren’t a lot of kills on the board and the game itself was very long.

We were in a tough spot in game 1, but we did believe that we were going to outscale them. When we play against really strong teams, there tends to be less mistakes made, so long games like that sometimes happens.

Are you confident in long and drawn out games?

We’re confident in games that take any shape or form, so we’re not too particularly wary about games getting long.

It seemed that T1 struggled against Volibear jungle in game 1.

Rather than talking about Volibear, all we talked about was what we needed to do inside the game. Volibear did run at us pretty scarily though… It looked like Volibear was a card that they’ve prepared, so we made sure to ban it for game 2.

Strategically, is there anything that the team prepared for against Gen.G?

We thought that the most important thing was fundamentals. Everyone knew that it was an important game, and it feels like we closed out both games quite well.

T1 has nine consecutive wins against Gen.G. Is there a reason why the team’s so dominant against them?

Gen.G loves to aggressively snowball the game early to mid game, and because we answer their aggression well, we’re able to produce good results against them. Also, it feels like Gen.G has this mental barrier against us.

On the other hand, it seems that T1 is especially weak against DAMWON Gaming.

It always feels like we lose because of one small thing. I think we lose against them because we made too many mistakes.

You played Twisted Fate in game 2. If you had to choose your best champion between Azir and TF, who would it be?

It’s hard to choose one over the other because they’re both situational picks. They’re both great champions in the right compositions.

The competition for POG points was quite fierce in game 2. Do you feel disappointed that you weren’t chosen?

Not really, because I knew there was a chance I wouldn’t receive it. I was actually quite disappointed with certain parts of my play in game 2, such as the use of my summoner spells and positioning, so I didn’t really think about it.

T1 has a 4-2 record, and compared to Summer splits in 2019 and 2018, it’s a great start.

It definitely is, because we went on loss streaks back then. Although the start may be great, I’m not satisfied with our performance nor our results.

We now have a 4-2 record, and we’ll make sure to finish in 1st place this split. Thanks for all the support.
