On the 18th (KST), in the 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) Summer Split, Team Dynamics shut out kt Rolster 2-0. It was the first win for Team Dynamics in the LCK as they were promoted this season. Top laner Lee “Rich” Jae-won had good performances on Jayce and Aatrox in today’s match. He sat with Inven Global after the match for an interview.
Congratulations on today’s win. How do you feel about today’s 2-0 victory?
There were many worries prior to the game against kt Rolster. I feel really good that we won with good performance. Through this victory, I think we’ll be able to do well in our next match against Afreeca Freecs.
What was the biggest concern against KT?
It was Aiming’s ability to carry. From Game 1, KT rather picked a composition that isn’t focused on Aiming’s carry ability so we were able to capitalize on that.
You were voted as the Player of the Game in Game 2 anonymously. Are you satisfied?
I really, really wanted to get voted as POG. From when I was in Gen.G, I always wanted to do a POG interview one day and I’m so happy that I was able to do that from the start of the summer split.
If that was your long desire, you would have had something prepared to say.
LCK has a lot more viewers and fans compared to Heroes of the Storm. When that thought entered my mind, I became too nervous to say something. I was even more nervous than playing in the game (Laughs).
What was the biggest focus in today’s game? The fans’ impression of Team Dynamics’ first day out would have been important as well.
We thought we should fight when we can win and avoid fights that we can’t win. In Game 1, we were weak in the early game and we thought that we should fight starting from the third dragon. That went well.
Did you think you’d have such a big victory?
From when we were in Challengers Korea, our scrim record against kt Rolster wasn’t bad, so I thought it wouldn’t be that difficult to play against them. Even so, it was scary since KT’s performances got better as the season went on last season. Fortunately, the game went well.
Compared to you when you first transitioned to League of Legends in Gen.G last year, what’s different with you now?
Starting from my ability to play the game, my vision on this game as a whole is different. Now that I confess, I think I was really bad when I was in Gen.G. I was a nuisance to the team to play in an official match with that form.
You played Aatrox in Game 2. Were you confident that you’d win?
My original thought was to pick Aatrox if there was nothing else to pick. When I locked him in, I thought, ‘If the opponent picks a champion easy to play against, I’ll, win, if not, I need to play better’.
Nongshim’s investment was announced today. Is there anything you’re looking forward to?
Ramen…? (Laughs) We weren’t a big team in any way. I’m glad that it’ll get better when players need or want something. I’m looking forward to that. I’m also looking forward to having Nongshim’s logo on our jersey.
What’s your favorite Ramen?
Jjapaguri. I really like it. I often cook it for my teammates as well.
Fans are adding Nongshim to the team’s name. Nongshim Dynamics, Nongshim Rich… Do you like it?
It’s kind of awkward. How about Nongshimmics?
Do you never play Heroes of the Storm now? Even in the offseason?
It’s been a long time since I haven’t touched the game. I still read the patch notes of HotS... It’s like looking at the social media feed of an ex-girlfriend.
Many people will pay attention to the fact that you were at the top of a different game. Does that have any pressure on you?
I don’t feel any pressure but what I think is that since League of Legends is completely different from Heroes of the Storm, now that I play LoL, my record in HotS means nothing. People have higher expectations than I thought but having such high expectations can also mean that I’m doing well. So I think it’s positive.
You had a good start. What’s your goal for Round 1?
Winning at least one of the following teams: Gen.G, DRX, or T1.
Lastly, a word to the fans?
Since we’re new to the league, we don’t have that many fans. We’ll deliver consistent performances so if you become our fan, we’ll repay you.
