Cloud9 picked up right where it left after winning the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Spring Playoffs by going 2-0 in its first week of the 2020 LCS Summer Split against Evil Geniuses and 100 Thieves. C9 Mid Laner Yasin "Nisqy" Dincer joined Inven Global's Nick Geracie to discuss C9's hot start to summer, the importance of his mid/jungle synergy with Robert "Blaber" Huang, and the one team who poses a threat to Cloud9.
Congrats on the 2-0 week, Nisqy. Were things as easy as you expected them to be, or were you expecting more of a challenge?
I think there's a similar gap between us and the other teams as there was in spring because scrims have been going pretty well. I knew we would win easily today, as well as our first match against FlyQuest.
Today we saw you have almost 100% Kill Participation on Galio in a 26-minute slaughter of 100 Thieves. What was the game plan heading into this match?
When we picked Olaf I knew we needed something that pushes lane, supports him, or at least try to help him to do what he wants. If I already have a carry in the jungle and Ezreal/Yuumi for bot lane scaling, then I want to technically make sure that Olaf can play his game. Teams in NA can't usually pick things that beat Olaf, *laughs* so we're kind of abusing it.
Blaber looked every bit deserving of his Spring Split MVP award today, but when I asked him about it earlier this week, he said that he thought you were going to win the award. What are your thoughts?
We memed each other about it and both told each other we were going to be the ones to win it. I see Mid/Jungle as one role in a team setting. I feel that way right now, but I didn't see it like that before. I feel like now if your Mid Laner and Jungler aren't on the same page — or if one of them is just playing badly — both of them look way worse.
I'm happy that Blaber got MVP. I didn't really care if it was me or him, to be honest. I knew it would be one of us because we dominated with our mid/jungle synergy so much throughout spring. We're just going to keep going because no one can contest us. I hope I win the MVP next time because now that Blaber has one, I need one for myself. laughs
Are there any teams in the LCS that have improved a lot since spring?
I think the only team that is kind of scary in a way is Team Liquid. TL is the only team that doesn't lose in 15-20 minutes. Usually, all of the other teams do, but TL actually fights back. They don't take bad fights, and their draft is pretty decent as well. I'd say Team Liquid is the only team I can think of in this context.
The match between C9 and TL should be quite exciting, then. Thanks for the interview, Nisqy. Is there anything you want to say to the Cloud9 fans after a 2-0 week 1?
I knew that we were going to win this week. I think our fans probably did as well, and I think next week should be a 2-0 as well. I'm pretty sure that in the following weeks only Team Liquid has the capability of beating us, but I will try to keep my word on that because I think we can beat them too.
