The format of the Mid-Season Cup (MSC), which is scheduled to be held on the 28th (KST), has been leaked by the Support player for Invictus Gaming, Southwind, through his stream. According to his stream, the groups for the group stages will consist of the 1st and 4th place team of each region paired up with the 2nd and the 3rd place team of the other region in a group.
Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) has been cancelled this year. However, in its place, MSC will be taking place, where the LCK teams will be playing at LoL Park, while the LPL teams will be playing from the LPL Arena. The top four teams from both leagues will be competing for a $600,000 USD prize pool, and while the matches will be held in the KR servers, in order to keep the ping difference between the regions, Riot announced that they will be artificially standardizing the ping to 30m/s.
Although the group draw and detailed information on the schedule is yet to be announced, according to Southwind, there will be two groups for the group stages. The 1st and the 4th place teams from each region will be joining the 2nd and the 3rd place team of the other region. This will mean that JDG/IG/Gen.G/DragonX will be in one group, while T1/DWG/TES/FPX will be in the other group.
In addition, Southwind revealed that the group stages will be in a single round-robin format, where the teams will be playing one another once. The top 2 teams from each group will be heading into the knockout stages, and if such format is confirmed, Day 1 and 2 of the tournament will be the group stages, with the knockout stages and the finals most likely happening on Day 3 and 4 respectively.
On this, Riot Games stated, “There’s nothing that we can confirm at this time. The group draw and detailed match schedule will be announced in the near future.”
