On the 8th (KST), DragonX took on KT Rolster in the 2nd match of day 3 in the 2020 LCK Spring split. With a set score of 2-1, DRX took down KT to take their first win of the season. Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon was benched via a competitive ruling, so the mid laner, Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon ended up playing top lane, and DRX’s sub mid laner, Song “Quad” Su-hyeong ended up going mid lane. Despite the rocky start in game 1, the squad led by Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu led the team into a reverse sweep of the series and ultimately into victory.
After the match, Deft joined the Press Room for an interview and talked about the match and how it feels to be the oldest in the team.
How does it feel to take the first victory of the season?
I was worried because our starting roster wasn’t the one that we had a lot of practice on, but I’m very proud of how exceptional Song “Quad” Su-hyeong performed to night.
What’s the difference between game 1 to game 2 & 3?
In game 1, we tried to utilize our mid-jungle lead to pressure the side lanes, but because of how crafty the enemy Leblanc was, it didn’t work out. In game 2, we believed that we’re individually better than the enemy, so we picked the champions that we’re most comfortable on. Rather than picking champions that we practiced, we just picked champions that looked good at the time.
You're now the oldest member on the team. Do you feel pressured at all?
Rather than feeling the pressure in our standings, I feel pressured in how my actions can unknowingly affect my teammates in a negative way.
Keria even received Player of the Game in game 2.
He’s performing really well, and once he learns to control his confidence, I know he’ll continue to perform well. I’m a firm believer of Supports proactively giving out in-game calls. This is because they’re the ones that are better at looking at the flow of the game. We’ve honed our synergy for a long time, and the way we look at the game is now similar, so Keria’s the one giving out orders.
Can you tell us about picking Ziggs in game 1?
I pulled out Ziggs because he does well against Aphelios in lane, but because of much gank pressure, it didn’t work out the way we practiced.
Why did Chovy play top today?
Chovy sometimes plays top lane in solo queue, but he’s better than most top laners. Also, Quad didn’t invest much time into top lane, so that’s why Chovy naturally ended up going top. Chovy played so well today that I can’t even remember which champion the enemy picked in the top lane.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
Although LCK will be held without any spectators for the time being, it brings me much energy in knowing that there are so many fans cheering for me at home. We’ll make sure to prepare well for our next match as well and win.
