The Game Awards Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Record 154 Million Livestreams

The Game Awards commemorated its 10th anniversary on December 12, 2024, achieving a new milestone with an estimated 154 million global livestreams. This marks a 31% increase from the previous year’s 118 million streams in 2023, according to organizers.

 

Embracing a streaming-native, friction-free distribution strategy, The Game Awards reached audiences across multiple digital platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, Steam, TikTok Live, X, Instagram Live, and Facebook. StreamCharts reported that Twitch, YouTube, and other Western platforms collectively attracted over 4 million peak concurrent viewers, a more than 10% rise from last year.

 

YouTube saw a significant boost, with the 4K feed experiencing a 35% year-over-year increase in peak concurrent viewers, totaling 1.3 million. Including co-streams, YouTube’s peak concurrent viewers rose by 28% to over 2.17 million, supported by a record 4,500 co-streaming channels. On Twitch, over 11,000 channels co-streamed the event, contributing to a combined total of 15,900 co-stream channels across platforms.

 

 

Social media engagement surged as well, with the hashtag #TheGameAwards on X increasing by 150% year-over-year, generating 1.59 million posts and 6.79 billion impressions. Viewer participation also grew, with voting for awards rising by over 25% to more than 112 million votes across all platforms.

 

This year’s awards saw Team Asobi and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s ASTRO BOT take home four awards, including Game of the Year. Other notable winners included Studio Zero’s Metaphor: ReFantanzio and LocalThunk’s Balatro, each securing multiple categories. The ceremony featured performances by Twenty One Pilots, d4vd, Royal & the Serpent, and Snoop Dogg, alongside appearances from industry icons like Harrison Ford and Hideo Kojima.

 

The Game Awards also showcased upcoming titles, including Borderlands 4, Elden Ring Nightreign, and The Witcher 4, highlighting the event’s role as a premier platform for announcing future gaming innovations.
