LoL Esports announced today the introduction of the League of Legends Championship of The Americas (LTA), a rebranded competition merging North America, Latin America, and Brazil into a unified league. The LTA will feature two conferences: LTA North, comprising teams from North America and Northern Latin America, and LTA South, with teams from Brazil and South America. The aim is to elevate the level of competition and enhance fan experience by showcasing top talent from across the Americas.
The new league's logo incorporates elements from the LCS and CBLOL, reflecting the histories and futures of the respective conferences. A central logo for LTA features compass needles pointing North and South, symbolizing the unity of the two conferences.
Each conference will consist of eight teams, blending established organizations and emerging talent. LTA North will include six LCS partner teams, one LLA partner, and a guest team, while LTA South will feature six CBLOL partners, an LLA partner, and a guest team. Notable teams like Cloud9, Dignitas, and Team Liquid Honda will participate in LTA North, while teams such as LOUD, paiN Gaming, and Vivo Keyd Stars will compete in LTA South.
LTA's 2025 season will introduce a new format with three distinct splits designed to enhance competition and foster regional rivalries. The season kicks off with a double-elimination tournament, progressing to inter-conference play and culminating in a single-elimination finals. Later splits will include double round-robin play and a new "Pick & Play" system where teams select their opponents, adding strategic depth and excitement.
Residency rules have been adjusted to allow teams one player from anywhere in the Americas to be considered a local resident, promoting flexibility in roster building while preserving regional identity.
The season will conclude with the Americas Regional Championship, where top teams will secure spots for the World Championship and compete for the inaugural LTA Trophy. The locations of key events will alternate between conferences each year, starting with the 2025 Split 1 Playoffs in Brazil.
The League of Legends Championship of The Americas is set to begin on January 25, 2025.
