What you need to know about the Mid-Season Brawl

After grueling weeks of league competition, the teams for the Mid-Season Brawl have been finalized. From June 10-20th, twelve of the best HGC teams will battle it out in Sweden for the biggest and first global tournament of the season. As well as bragging rights and advancement into the main event during DreamHack Summer, the lion’s share of $250,000 in cash is on the line.

In preparation for the event, a comprehensive breakdown of each team has been posted on the official HGC website. The breakdown includes an explanation of each team's strength while also telling the story of each of their journies to the first global tournament. Also included in the post are interesting statistics, such as the anomaly of MVP Black’s 100% win-rate with Zeratul and CE’s star Warrior player who has a 100% win-rate with E.T.C, Stitches, and Muradin.

Mid-Season Brawl casters

The primary casting for the event includes the usual suspects that Heroes fans have grown to love:

Jaycie “Gillyweed” Gluck
Wade “Dreadnaught” Penfold
Tim “TrikSlyr” Frazier
Thomas “Khaldor” Kilian

Additional guest commentary (likely in the form of analysis or post-game highlights) will come from equally familiar faces:

Josh "JHow" Howard
Christopher "Tetcher" Ivermee
Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen
James "Kaelaris" Carrol

This marks a return of beloved Heroes caster, Kaelaris, who was once given a parting gift on stream during the end of his brief HGC casting career. Kaelaris was only standing in for Khaldor, who became extensively delayed when trying to make the move to the United States, but fans have been vocal about how much they want his return.

The Phoenix Bracket

Taken directly from the official posting, the rules for stage one are as follows:

“The 12 teams at the Mid-Season Brawl will be split into two groups of six. In Stockholm, each team will play every other team in their group in a two game series. A Battleground win will be worth one (1) point, while winning both Battlegrounds will be worth three (3) points. The two teams with the least amount of points in their group will be eliminated while the rest will be seeded into the Phoenix bracket, so each team’s path through the group stage is crucial.”

The Phoenix bracket is a double elimination format that grants the team entering the grand finals from the winners bracket one game win automatically in the best-of-seven match.
