Harrisburg University reveals a glimpse into their Esports team on HBO Vice.

As time slips by, Esports relentlessly evolves. Although Esports itself has grown into an unimaginable scale, collegiate Esports has only been able to scratch the surface. With many colleges already beginning to pick up on the trend, Harrisburg University is one of the very few schools which offers its first and only varsity sport as Esports.

Already investing over 2 million US dollars into the program itself, Eric Darr, President of Harrisburg University, is open about his passion to enforce Harrisburg University as the one of if not the best leader in collegiate Esports. Similar to traditional varsity sports teams in college, Harrisburg offers a head coach and program director in order to analyze over 100s of hours of game footage and data. In essence, an Esports version of moneyball. This process directly translates into a better review of players when recruited. When players are recruited into the program by passing tryouts and interviews, the players receive scholarships to attend Harrisburg University as if a student would be able to with any other sport.

Harrisburg University released a video in regards to HBO Vice interviewing the core representatives of the Esports initiative. In the video when Eric Darr was asked how much money Harrisburg has put into the program, Eric Darr replies by saying “Even before the first match happens in September, we would have spent somewhere between 2.5 to 3 million US dollars. We’re serious about this. Yes, we are.”.
