Kim "Doinb" Tae-sang just represented China and the LPL in Germany, Spain, and Paris, winning the second Worlds title in a row for the region, and then he flew to Las Vegas to represent them again at All Stars. Now, he has become the first import player in the LPL to gain residency there.
Whereas other prominent LPL imports, like Song "Rookie" Eui-jin, have spent time playing outside the region, Doinb's entire career has been in China. He has learned Chinese, married a Chinese woman, won the fan vote for All Stars, and brought the World Championship trophy to China once again. Now he will really get to call the region home.
Moreso, this means it's likely Doinb is not retiring this year, otherwise FPX and Doinb himself would've gone through the trouble of transferring residency for nothing other than bragging rights. (Well... I guess with Doinb this is possible.) But we will likely be seeing at least one more year from the mid, who has hinted at possible retirement two years in a row now.
Residency transfers have otherwise been mostly from KR and EU to NA, but Doinb marks a potential wave of residency changes for other LPL players like Kang "TheShy" Seung-lok and Hung "Karsa" Hao-Hsuan, though FPX's tweet mentions five years, meaning it's possible players will have to really commit before residency is granted. Who do you think will be next? And will China start importing from regions other than Korea? Let us know on Twitter!
