Riot Games is introducing two separate League of Legends esports leagues for the Benelux—the European subregion comprised of Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg. The region as a whole is still considered as one region for the European Masters qualifiers, teams will be split between two leagues for the 2020 season.

Both leagues will be open to any team from the Benelux, but only six teams will end up competing per league. Information about signing up will be announced later, Riot states. During the season, the six teams within a league will play in a Double Round Robin format, with each match being a Best of 1. Both the Spring Split and Summer Split award €7.500 in prize money. At the end of the 2020 season the National Finals are held for both the Dutch League and the Belgian League, each with a €10.000 prize pool.

With the partnership and the expansion, Riot is investing more in the smaller regions within the larger ones. If it takes off, the announcement reads, both the Dutch League and the Belgian League will be expanded in future seasons with more teams.
