For the first time in Hearthstone history, a woman has been crowned the title of World Champion and BlizzCon Champion at the annual event held at the Anaheim Convention Center.

In front of a packed crowd of fans watching on, Xiaomeng "VKLiooon" Li swept Brian "Bloodyface" Eason in three straight games to take the title of the best player in the world, along with a $200,000 cash prize on Saturday afternoon. In dominant fashion, Li ran the table against Bloodyface by ending the first game quickly with Evolve Shaman before turning the tides in game two with Quest Druid and taking home the glory with a Highlander Hunter deck.

Hailing from China, Li became the first woman to qualify for the Hearthstone Global Finals after winning the Gold Open Tianjin Master Group Season 1 Playoffs in the fall.

When it was her turn to take the stage and grasp the World Championship trophy, Li broke down in tears before encouraging everyone of all backgrounds to fight for what they believe in. Just like she did.

"I want to say to all girls out there who have a dream for esports, for competition, for glory, if you want to do it and you believe in yourself you should just forget your gender and go for it," Li said through a translator.
