On the 2nd, FunPlus Phoenix took down Invictus Gaming in the first semifinal match of the 2019 LoL World Championship. In the match that some have dubbed, the ‘LPL Finals Fall’, the Summer LPL champions took down the defending world champions to head for their very first finals at Worlds.
FPX’s jungler, Gao ‘Tian’ Tian-Liang, joined Sjokz in the official Riot Games English broadcast for the post-match interview to share his thoughts about the victory.
From a spectator’s perspective, this match was very entertaining to watch, but what do you think was the reason why FPX was stronger than IG today?
First, I think that our level 1s were stronger, where we were able to catch them multiple times. Also, our teamfighting was a lot stronger than IG.
I have to commend you on your tenure at Worlds. What does it mean for you to make it to the finals in your first appearance at Worlds?
I think our team did very well. For all of us, this is our first time at Worlds, and even though there was a lot of pressure, we overcame all of it and performed well.
On the road to the Summoner’s Cup, you will either be facing either G2 or SKT. What do you think your chances are against one of those two teams?
I don’t know about our chances, but I hope that we face G2. This is Europe’s home court, and I hope that everyone can chant FPX at the end of it all.
Now that you’ve knocked out IG in the semifinals, all the hopes of the LPL fans now rests on your shoulders. What would you like to say to the LPL fans to reassure them that the Summoner’s Cup is heading back to the LPL for the second year in a row?
I’m not entirely confident at the moment, but we will try our absolute best to make this year’s finals exciting.
