On the 25th (KST), Jin Air Green Wings have announced that they have mutually parted ways with the Head coach of the League of Legends squad, Han ‘H Dragon’ Sang-yong. As the team’s head coach that’s been with the team since the Summer of 2013, this news may come as a heartbreaking news for the Jin Air fans.
Jin Air Green Wings, despite always being at the bottom of LCK, have always managed to survive the relegations. It’s a team that some fans call ‘The Griffin of Relegation’, because of the dominance they’ve always shown towards the Challengers Korea teams.
However, this season was different. They’ve managed to set the record for having the longest loss streak in LCK. Because they couldn’t get a single match win during the regular season, they’ve looked their weakest yet. Eventually, the team that’s been the staple of LCK for many years, have cracked and have been relegated into Challengers Korea.
Regarding the decision for his departure, H Dragon explained, “As the Head Coach, I need to take responsibility for the team’s relegation. Also, in order for Jin Air Green Wings to take off, I felt that there needs to be a drastic change within the team.”
He continued, “I want to thank Jin Air for all their support over the years. I’m incredibly sorry for not living up to expectations. I wish all the former and the current Jin Air players nothing but the best. Wherever they may be, I hope they work hard, and look long ahead into the future for their success.”
On his next steps, he commented that nothing has been decided yet, and said, “Because I’ve been with Jin Air Green Wings for so long, whatever else I do next will be a huge challenge. Wherever I end up next, I’ll make sure to always give it my all.”
On the mutual parting, Jin Air stated, “Thank you for always acting in the best interests for the team, and we will never forget your immense efforts in elevating Jin Air Green Wings. We wish you nothing but the very best in your future endeavors.”
