On the 20th, IG took down Team Liquid on the last day of the group stages in the 2019 LoL World Championship. In this do or die match for the very last ticket into the quarterfinals, the defending world champions took down and eliminated the final hope of NA in a very dominating fashion.
IG’s top laner, Kang ‘TheShy’ Seung-lok have joined Laure Valée and Jeesun Park in the post-match interview to share his thoughts about the quarterfinals.
You may have expected your team to move out of the group stages, but are you happy in the way that happened?
To be honest, as I was playing in the group stages at Worlds, I wasn’t too confident in my skills. I kept thinking to myself why I’m not playing so well, and that I usually play better. However, my teammates told me that it wasn’t a matter of my skills, but my mentality, so when I stopped doubting myself, I was able to help produce great results.
If you were to improve on something for your run at Worlds, what would it be?
My Mandarin isn't good enough yet, and that leads to communication errors between me and my teammates, so that’s my number one priority.
Looking forward to the quarterfinals, LCK has three 1st seed teams, and LEC looks strong as well. What do you think about LPL’s chances, as well as your team’s chances at becoming the world champions?
I wanted to get out of groups as 1st seed, put DAMWON in 2nd, and have two Korean teams face off in the quarterfinals, but it, unfortunately, didn’t come to fruition. It is what it is, so I want to play against SKT, and if we win, I hope to win the whole thing, but if we lose, it’s not that bad, because we lost to the tournament favorites.
