▲ Gigantamax Pikachu is coming to Pokémon Sword and Shield.

On Wednesday morning, The Pokémon Company unveiled its newest addition to Pokémon Sword and Sword, which is set to release next month, and he's a little round in the mid-section. Based on his original model when he was first created back in 1998, Pikachu is turning back the clock and snacking on a few too many Rare Candies.

Gigantamax Pikachunk. Er, Gigantamax Pikachub. Uh, Gigantamax Pikachu, debuted in a video released by the company alongside a few other Pokémon from Generation 1. Butterfree, Eevee, Meowth, and Charizard are also receiving Gigantamax forms. The last of which has been trending on Twitter in the United States due to its awesome design.

Pika-CHONK

As great as Charizard looks, the internet has become enamored with the chubbier version of the most iconic character in the game's universe. Back when Pokémon Red and Blue were released, Pikachu featured a fuller figure and was less human-like than the one most associate with now as the franchise has evolved and grew.

▲ Pikachu's design back in Pokémon Red and Blue was a little...heftier than he is now.

For the upcoming title, which is set to release on November 15, The Pokémon Company opted to return to their roots and increase his body fat percentage when he Gigantamaxes. Individuals who have play records from Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! on their Nintendo Switches will be able to acquire a Gigantamax version of the yellow mouse when they pick up one of the two new games, according to the company.

It's unknown if there will be a way for others to get this mighty and meaty mouse at some point but, for now, we're all gazing at his glory and thicc-ness.

A meme more than 15 years in the making

Back in the early 2000s, the internet was a different place. Humor was simpler, memes were pretty straightforward, and it didn't take much to get a laugh out of someone. In 2004, an image of a cat with an elongated torso began circulating online and it earned the title of...longcat. (Remember, the internet was very simple back then).

Well, those at Nintendo didn't forget about this meme as Gigantamax Meowth's design appears to be an homage to our furry internet friend.

Long torso? Check. Arms straight out? Check. A cat? Check.

The full Pokémon Sword and Shield rosters have yet to be released but if Wednesday's announcement is any indication of what's to come, no meme is safe.
