[Worlds 2019] Group Stage Day 3 MVP - Tian!

What a day of professional League of Legends. Day 3 of the World Championship brought some of the longest, most intense games yet, and then also the fastest game so far to end it off. The main problem with this day, however, is that there is supposed to be a winner - a single MVP.

But every single game had clear members carrying their team, or making game saving plays. In Game 1, Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu repeatedly ganked the bot lane, and then controlled space and objectives so well, he put his team in perfect position to win. So sure, Canyon get's MVP!

But then in Game 2, Jake Kevin "Xmithie" Puchero completely saved the game by stealing Baron. Team Liquid would've lost if not for him. He had multiple plays there near the end that allowed Liquid to win. It seemed like he and Yiliang "Peter" "Doublelift" Peng 2v5ed that game. But since Xmithie saved it, surely he gets MVP today, not Canyon!

But in Game 3, FunPlus Phoenix got a win after an incredible Baron powerplay off the back of a steal from Gao "Tian" Tian-Liang. While others on the team had been performing pretty well, FPX fell behind Splyce due to a tricky draft. Tian was the sole reason they got the Baron, the ace, the gold influx, and eventually the nexus. That was the most crucial moment yet, so MVP goes to Tian!

In contrast, Game 4 involved a complete team effort to grab that win. Every single fight was a 5v5. No MVP here! Hah! My job is so easy.

But then in Game 5, after a tragic level 1 invade, Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon (with the help of Lee "Tarzan" Seung-yong) completely righted the ship and eventually led his team to victory. He went deathless and dealt 43% of his team's damage! That's got to be an MVP performance, right?

And after all of this, as I sat down to figure out which of these players was most worthy, G2 Esports enters the stage, and Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther and Luka "Perkz" Perković made the decision even that much more difficult.

Caps singlehandedly made Yasin "Nisqy" Dinçer irrelevant, constantly popping him with the Zoe combo, and forcing a safe playstyle from the usually hyper aggressive midlaner. Perkz put on an absolute clinic with the feathered bot laner, dealing the most damage for his team in their record breakingly fast win (for this Worlds only). Sneaky may have cosplayed as Xayah, but it's clear Perkz has a much deeper connection with the champ.

Anyway, it's not clear who should get the MVP. Many players deserve it. However, because of how necessary it was for FPX to come away with a victory today, the MVP will have to go to Tian for saving the game. One single combo was all it took for FPX to come online, and it was his combo that did it. With Day 3 full of outstanding jungle performances, Tian takes the edge.
