On the 12th, Team Liquid defeated DAMWON Gaming in day 1 of the group stages of the 2019 LoL World Championship. As the 1st seed representing LCS, TL has shown that they’ve shown their veteran status over the rookie team hailing from the LCK.
Jo ‘CoreJJ’ Yong-in joined Laure Valée in the post-game interview to share his thoughts about the match and the team’s future in the group stages.
Congratulations on your victory. What do you think about your first steps in Worlds?
I was really worried because DAMWON is very strong and talented. Fortunately,we’re all very experienced with big stages, so that’s why we were able to win this game.
Heimerdinger is a contested pick at this year’s Worlds, but it seems that DAMWON doesn’t play the champion. Why did you guys ban Heimerdinger instead of a pick like Vladimir?
Impact was confident playing against Vladimir, and we didn’t want to take the chance of giving them Heimerdinger and going 50/50 in lane.
As a former world champion and an iconic player from LCK, none of the players that went to Worlds last year came back except you. How do you feel about this?
Actually, Mata was at Worlds last year (laughter). I’m proud of my team for how far we’ve come, and how well we’ve been doing. We’ve had a lot of struggles in our preparation for Worlds, but we’ve been having a lot of fun as well. I’m learning and having fun at the same time.
Are you confident against the other teams in groups?
We just beat DAMWON, so I think we’ve received a boost in our confidence.
