DWG Nuclear: "When I was in Europe, I lost to Fnatic in the Regionals. I’d really like to have a chance to face them again."

In the finals of the LCK Regional Qualifiers for the 2019 LoL World Championship, DAMWON Gaming and Kingzone DragonX fought for the last ticket to Worlds. In a fierce 5-game match, DAMWON was able to win 3-2. DAMWON always had the initiative for most of the time, but a few mistakes took them to the last game. By completely dominating the last game, they finally confirmed their first Worlds appearance. After the match, head coach Kim “Micro” Mok-kyoung and Sin “Nuclear” Jeong-hyeon were interviewed.

It’s your first Worlds appearance. How do you feel?

Micro: I thought that we had our goal set too high from the beginning. I’m happy that we’ve arrived at the starting point. We’ll do well there as well.

Nuclear: I did my best thinking that this could be the last match. It’s such a relief and I’m extremely happy.

Kingzone’s performances in the first two rounds of the Regionals were very good.

Micro: We thought we can beat anyone if we can prevent ourselves from being too nervous and if we can just show what we’re capable of. So it didn’t matter who reached the Regional Finals, and Kingzone’s momentum wasn’t that scary. Today, the players played well, like they always played.

Games 2 and 4 were turnarounds. How was the feedback?

Micro: Because of that, I gave stronger feedback after those games. I prioritized my players’ mentality, so I used to cheer and encourage them, but for Game 2, I mentioned specifically about the mistakes during the game, so that they could fix the mistakes.

Nuclear: I was scolded too. He said that my positioning was really bad. I agreed, and from the next round, I was more careful.

(To Nuclear) Reaching Worlds would mean more to you compared to the other rookie players.

Nuclear: Since I’m not a rookie, I thought that if it wasn’t now, I might not have any more chances. I didn’t want to put pressure on my teammates, so I didn’t say anything about that.

(To Micro) Who’s today’s MVP for you?

Micro: On a day like this, it’s too hard to pick just one person. Everyone did so well. There was also the countless effort of the coaching staff, who works where it isn’t visible. We all became one and did our best.

You’ll be starting at the play-in stage. How are you planning to prepare?

Micro: Rather than doing something special, I think we should prepare what we’re good at, practice plays that we like, and show it in the matches. I believe we can reach the main stage with that.

(To Nuclear) Are there any teams you would like to meet?

Nuclear: When I was in Europe, I lost to Fnatic in the Regionals. I’d really like to have a chance to face them again.

(To Micro) Who are you planning to take as your sixth man?

Micro: I haven’t thought of that yet. I’m planning to take a player that can be of help regarding the atmosphere or our results.

Any last comments?

Micro: Like Rift Rivals, I really hope that an LCK team can win the championship. I’ll prepare well and do my best.

Nuclear
: I’d like to have the fans around the world see us enjoy playing.
